
Bass baritone Andrew Stewart is becoming known to the opera world for his “powerful voice” and “formidable stage presence.” An alumnus of the Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Andrew began his formal operatic training and career after practicing as a lawyer in Vancouver, British Columbia.
A versatile voice and dramatic performer, Andrew has performed a wide range of bass and bass-baritone repertoire. Most recently, Andrew performed the role of The Bonze in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and Antonio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro for Vancouver Opera. Andrew also recently performed the roles of Comte de Grieux in Massenet’s Manon with Calgary Opera, Nourabad in Bizet’s The Pear Fishers with Edmonton Opera, as well as Angelotti in Puccini’s Tosca, Chekunov in Janacek’s House of the Dead and Antonio in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with the Canadian Opera Company.
Andrew has also performed Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème, Jupiter in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, Prince Gremin in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.
